Plants of Table Mountain - 'Cape Floral Kingdom' Collection by Artist Laurence Garrett

South Africa has many unique species to celebrate. We collaborated with Artist Laurence Garrett to depict 9 plants of Table Mountain in our limited-edition release.

The hand drawn illustrations are created with stippled pen marks reflecting hours of study in a meditative process. The design is screen printed with the black linework appearing on top of a halftone contour map of Table Mountain.

Secure the bundle while available or choose your favourite from this limited edition collection. Only 60 of each garment are available to honour the artwork.

Collection includes a Sand Hoodie, Olive Green T-shirt, Natural Hemp & Cotton Totebag, Sticker Pack, and Green Ripstop Bush Hat or Mustard Knitted Beanie.

About the Plant Species:

The species included are the Bobartia filiformis (Slender Rushiris), which has a grass like appearance until flowering in spring. Protea repens (Sugarbush) grow abundantly across the Southern Cape, standing as an icon of the Proteacea family. Leucospermum conocarpodendron (Grey Tree Pincushion) has large and easily recognisable flowers that demand closer inspection.

Watsonia tabularis (Table Mountain Watsonia) blankets the mountain from Cape Point to the cable car with its sword-shaped leaves and salmon-pink flowers. It shares the same pollinator as the Disa uniflora (Red Disa), a butterfly known as Table Mountain Beauty.

Alongside Proteas, the Erica ericoides (Heath) represents the huge family of 690 Ericaceae species endemic to South Africa. A standout pale blue, the Micranthus alopecuroides (Swordleaf Combflower) has a striking appearance across the sandstone soils of the Southern Cape.

Known as the African corn lily, the Ixia polystachia (Corn Kalossie) stands out in any environment thanks to its height. While Crassula coccinea (Klipblom) on the other hand requires a closer look. "I love the descriptive yet apt Afrikaans name" a stone plant.
