Slackline Events in Cape Town – The Gravity Groove
Share
Viper Slacklines continues to promote the growth of slacklining in South Africa. Having started with events in 2017, we are continuing our love for this balance sport with monthly ‘progression sessions’ in Cape Town. The Gravity Groove started in December 2025 with the aim of breathing life into our community through shared moments slacklining together.
With past activations including beach slacklines setup at the Muizenberg festival, Camps Bay RedBull Day, and at the Jordy Smith Cape Town Surf Pro, we look forward to exploring more spaces.

Slacklining in Cape Town
The Mother City offers incredible spaces for slacklining. Between trees perfectly spaced apart in the suburb of Gardens, across man-made tidal pools in Camps Bay, or using temporary anchors on any of the beaches, we have a variety of stunning options at hand. For ease of access, we have chosen a park in the city center for our free monthly events.

Gravity Groove Event – De Waal Park
At the foot of Table Mountain, the De Waal park hosts over 120 tree species and is dog friendly. These well-established trees provide perfect anchors for slacklines so long as you remember to use tree-protectors and do not damage them.
In January, February, and March, we set up 7 slacklines near to the Espresso Bar. Ranging from short, beginner-friendly lines using the 13m compact slackline kits, to 20 meter-long tight lines set at knee height for speed line walking using the 23m active slackline kit, loose lines, and 18 meter-long 25mm wide slacklines using the 20m light weight slackline kits.
In January we used the space to test and refine our bare-bones, rodeo slackline with the help of feedback from other slackliners. This innovative product launched at our February event and weighs only 960 grams. Perfect for a ‘no-tension’ travel slackline.

Schedule of Event:
Interested to learn how to setup a slackline? Want to take your first steps on a line? Ready to run across with speed? Keep an eye out for the schedule for our upcoming events as things do change.
1pm - How to rig a slackline
1:30pm - Open slackline session
2pm - Beginner Slackline Class
2:45pm - Speedline/Trickline progression session
4pm - Open Slack session
5pm - Derigging starts

Big Rig Boulder Pads
We are grateful for the support of Big Rig who provided four boulder pads for us to use in our January and February ‘progression sessions’. These proved to be the perfect padding for our trickline session which took place alongside the 6 other slacklines. Fuad displayed some impressive skills at a decent height above the line with butt bounces and foot grabs.

Located in the suburb of Oranjezicht, the park is a Provincial Heritage Site. It is gated and has arched Art Nouveau style entrances on Kamp Street. Opened in 1895, it is the second oldest public park in South Africa after the Company Gardens. Public toilets on-site are available during the day.
Walking around, you’ll notice tree tags helping you to identify the species. This makes the environment even more enjoyable for a tree-lover to explore. A band stand, erected in 1905, continues to be used during summer for live music performances. We typically park our cars inside near the Gardens Lawn Tennis Club accessed from Molteno Road.
